The materiality and character of the space is essential to the project. Carefully chosen materials introduce additional stimuli in the form of shape, color, and texture. Interaction between occupants and building systems—natural light, ventilation, and greenery—and involvement of the user in the design of spaces they themselves will occupy, engages them in their immediate environments and ultimately, their communities.
