A House in Wilmette 1

Single family residence project in Wilmette, Illinois. The existing original house had been randomly altered through the years. The latest of the alterations had greatly reduced the access of natural light into some of the rooms and common areas. We proposed to return the house to its original condition while building an addition in keeping with the programmatic needs of our client. Such needs included a sense of privacy and more South oriented exposed living spaces. We designed the addition as a continuation of the existing house creating an internal South oriented patio which allowed light into most key areas of the home. The continuous sloping roof diminishes in height as the house transitions from the double height family room space to the garage and patio. The project establishes a dialogue with the old house through the continuation and progressive transformation of its form.
