The residential units at 400N should contribute to a century long tradition in Chicago Lakefront luxury living. Young professionals, families and empty nesters, all deserving of an individually tailored living experience, should be able to enjoy the benefits of downtown Chicago luxury living while enjoying unique programmatic offerings and fulfilling personal lifestyle aspirations.

The residential units at 400N have been designed to exhibit a stately elegance, a deliberately understated luxury living experience that will reveal to the user graciously proportioned spaces, a subtle selection of noble materials and gently light filled spaces featuring unique views of Chicago’s lakefront.

The units at 400N have been conceived with extreme versatility in mind, allowing to properly cater to the anticipated user groups that will inhabit the buildings. This versatility is ensured by the provision of design flexibility in both the overall floor plan unit type distribution strategy and in the specific programmatic articulation within of each individual unit. With the goal of achieving a flexible unit mix in every floor, all the units follow the module established by the exterior wall 40” module.

The residences at 400N have been conceived to be able to respond to 21st Century programmatic requirements. It is hard to deny that the development of technology has brought about dramatic changes in the way we live in our homes. The transition from telephone and cable television to high speed internet has transformed the way we relate to the world from our homes. The distinction between “being at work” and “being at home” has effectively disappeared. Our homes have to be able to address the requirement of privacy and need for concentration that work demands while preserving the essence of home life.

Today’s lifestyle has also demanded that elements of the residence that where once viewed as support spaces such as kitchens, bathrooms and closets have become an active part of home living. Home appliances and fixtures have all evolved from being tools for a specific use (cooking, bathing) to being vehicles for self expression which project something about us. The home is the envelope that brings this programmatic transformation into a cohesive unit, a residential unit where dwellers can live comfortably, but that also expresses their unique personalities and fulfill their lifestyle aspirations.
