National Design Museum

NDM: HARMONY & LINKAGE

We believe that the National Museum Complex should be comprised of buildings with a strong, individual identity yet with the unequivocal vocation to be harmoniously integrated with the National Museum Complex and with each other . Our project adapts to the conceptual guidelines of the original Master Plan as well as to the basic principles already established by the Korean Museum of Urbanism and Design located to the north of our site. The Korean National Design Museum’s architectural approach attempts to provide a sense of visual and conceptual continuity advocating for a solution that fits seamlessly within its environment.

SITE & GLOBAL PRINCIPLES

Our proposal for the Korean National Design Museum in Sejong will strengthen the relationship between its visitors and Korea’s unique historic culture of design. From a planning perspective, the project aims to establish a harmonious dialog with the campus as well as with the other surrounding museums by defining a subtle yet strong presence within the National Museum Complex encouraging visitor traffic flow into the new design museum. The project goals will be:

1. To increase visitor traffic around and into the museum
2. To reflect and represent Korea’s unique historic design culture
3. To design a museum focused on research, education and the design of the future
4. To design a flexible building connected to our current reality yet with the ability to adapt into the future.
