Beard Elementary School

The new Beard Pre-K Center Annex is a 17,000 SF is one story fiber-cement clad Pre-K center addition to the existing Daniel C Beard Elementary School.

In order to situate the new annex on the already constrained site along with a new parking lot, the typical annex approach has been modified by relocating 4 classrooms. This extends the length of the new building to better fit the proportions of the site while also introducing a shared courtyard between the two schools. This courtyard allows for a protected social learning space for children to play outdoors.

Programmatically, the annex is split into an administration wing and an instructional wing. The classrooms in this instructional wing are organized along a partially double-loaded corridor that opens to the shared courtyard, allowing ample daylight to fill the interior of the school.
